We will be using the MSDN version of SCCM 2007 Sp1 namely en_system_center_configuration_manager_2007_with_service_pack_1_x86_dvd_x14-66461.iso so burn it to DVD or mount it in Daemon tools (or similar).
SCCM 2007 Initial Setup and Configuration
I followed this guide for my lab build. I was getting pretty frustrated with failures. It turned out my initial extraction of "SCConfigMgr07_EVAL_EN.exe" was corrupt. After I re extracted and ran the setup locally it worked fine.
After data is gathered from the initial source site of the Configuration Manager 2007 SP2 hierarchy, you do not have to set up additional source sites before you create migration jobs. However, before you can migrate data from additional sites, you must set up additional sites as source sites, and Configuration Manager must successfully gather data from those sites.
After data is gathered from the initial source site of the System Center 2012 Configuration Manager or later hierarchy, you do not have to set up additional source sites in that source hierarchy. This is because unlike Configuration Manager 2007, these versions of Configuration Manager use a shared database, and the shared database lets you identify and then migrate all available objects from the initial source site.
The most popular method is client push (you must have client push enabled and setup for this method). With this method, you simply use 2012 to discover the clients that you have in 2007, and then push the clients to them. It is not recommended to do all clients at once. You should consult your network administrator and figure out the number of clients that will not overload your network.
Microsoft Configuration Management has gone through two brand changes. Both resulted in reducing confusion with other initialism as well as including the software in a Microsoft systems management portfolio. In 2007, System Management Service (SMS) became System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM). This helped avoid confusion with the Short Message Service (SMS) initialism and added the product, along with other system management tools, under a unified System Center brand. In 2019 Configuration Manager moved to the Microsoft Endpoint Manager suite[29] to better align it with Microsoft Intune and related endpoint management solutions. This change also helped reduce confusion of the oft used initialism SCCM that is common in other industries such as The Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM).
The setup of my ConfigMgr PXE Service Point was for me not a straight forward process. I faced some serious issues with the WDS service on my SCCM server. After my initial setup of WDS & PXE Service point + DCHP config I ran into an TFP Open timeout error.
System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2 SP2 helps maintain consistency in system configuration and management. Rather than having each and every workstation, laptop, and server built from scratch in an ad hoc manner with configuration settings based on the individual desires of the IT professional building the system, SCCM uses templates in the build process.
System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2 SP2 has hundreds of features and functions that an IT administrator can leverage as part of their system configuration and management practices; some of the major features in the product are as follows:
System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2 SP2 is a very powerful tool that is the start of the life cycle of a networked environment, providing templates and standard configurations for systems all the way through updates, management, and reporting. Jump to Chapters 2 through 5 of this book for specific information and deployment and configuration guidance on how SCCM can be best leveraged in your enterprise. 2ff7e9595c
